#GRAWildRobot Reflection

A big part of participating in GRA is discussing the text, sharing our thoughts about the characters’ actions and inferring themes and making predictions about what might happen next. How is this different to how we usually interact with texts in the classroom, you ask?

WELL, we share this thinking with classes GLOBALLY with classes from around the wordl reading the same book!
Here is our first connection! Welcome to Ms Larson’s class!

Students, watch each other’s videos and try to guess which city each class is from.

      Hi Ashton,
I think roz is 5 or 6 because she has just started learning.I also think the animals don’t like Roz because they have never seen her before.
How old do you think Roz is?

I think that Roz adapts because she copies the animals. The reson why she copies is because our class thinks that shes 7 or 6 years old.

      Hi Ella,
I am Dom from 4T! I am also excited to speak with you and your class. I really like The Wild Robot and I can’t wait to read more.

My favourite part is whenshe found the goose egg. I agree with you with your description of ADAPTATION. It is when you got into a different setting and you change your ways to fit in.

What is your favourite part of The Wild Robots.

      Hi Mason,
Since Roz washed up on the shore, she has been adapting and changing. She has learned to speak the animal languages and has been smarter about taking care of herself. If you think about it since Roz was first on the island she has been getting a lot less injuries. I think that she is learning from the animals. Eg. Roz learned how to climb up the cliff by looking at the crab.

How do you think Roz has learned the animal languages so well?

Her brain changing, for an example she saw animals and now she is thinking like the animals do. Robots don’t have emotions for an example, she is helping animals but I’m not sure if she is feeling emotions or if she is just helping animals because that is what her computer brain tells her to do.

she is starting to observe the forest and the animals. for example she was watching a opossum play dead and she tried to learn and copy the opossum. robots don’t have emotions. but she is caring and helping. for example she help a egg whose parents died.

    Hello I am Celia,

When Roz first got there she didn’t know anything. But now she’s learned a lot by watching the other animals. For example, she saw the opossum play dead so the fox wouldn’t want to eat it. She learned that she could play dead if she is getting attacked.

      Hi Celia,
I also think that she has adapted by looking at her peers. She has learnt that if other animals succeed when doing certain things that she could try them herself.

I think that your comment was very well-written and you used correct punctuation like full stops (periods) and capital letters. I was surprised that there was some really good comments that your class wrote seeing as you haven’t done any before.

What is your favourite part of the book so far?

In the Wild Robot,Rozes mind set changed because she has been watching animal like for example she watched the twig bug blending in with its natural habitat. Her emotions….. well……..robots don’t really have emotions but her emotions changed a little, she cares, and learns how to speak to animals. She adapts to her environment because she watches other animals and how they survive and she blends in.I enjoyed writing this to you! I hope you enjoyed! Bye!

      Hi Kayla S,
Your right about robots and how they can not process emotions because, they can not think for themselves because they do what they are programed to do just like like Roz. She also is making friends although some of the animals think she is MONSTER/BEAST. What do you think about how Roz is making friends but they think he is still a beast?

      Hi Kayla S,
I am also super excited to be chatting with you! So our class have read up to when Roz takes the little gosling to the other goose in the lake and is asking for advice, and whats suprising is that the animals like the fox and the owl actually helped her by saying you should talk to the owl or you should talk to the fox. Hopefully you have been enjoying the book also what is your favourite part of the book so far?

      Hi Kayla,

My name is Kara and I am in Year 4. I can’t wait to connect with you and your class.

Let me talk to you abot the book, The Wild Robot. I think Roz is changing because she is acting like different animals which means her survival is improving. As she is a robot she started with no emotions, but now because all the other animals are showing their emotions, I think Roz is starting to act and have the instincts like a human being. I think this because, Roz cares about the gosling, the fox and when the animals all left her.

What chapter is your class up to?

      See you later,
      Kara.

My name is Steph and I am also really excited to be sharing our blog with you.
I agree with you that robots don’t have emotions but, I feel like Ros does because she cares about the other animals (especially the goose egg). Ros has changed since she got there, because she has been copying other animals, like playing dead like the possum.
I think that she is trying to blend in, except the other animals don’t like Ros, except for the fox.

      Hi Kayla S,

My name is Serene and I’m in year 4. I also can’t wait to connect with your class. Now, about The Wild Robot.

At first, Roz was finding it hard to adapt to the new environment but then she starts copying the animals and learning from them. Roz couldn’t understand the animals but she started to observe the animals and learnt their language. Roz is now kind of feeling emotions because she cares about the gosling.
I can say that because she didn’t just leave the gosling egg, she was willing to take care of Bright Bell.

Do you think Bright Bell will help Roz with her friendships and if yes, why? If not, why?

I can’t wait to connect with you!
      Bye,
      Serene.

      Hi Kayla,

My name is Milly and I agree with you when you say that robots don’t feel emotions and i’m impressed with the way that Roz has adapted to the new enviroment. I infer that Roz will convice all the animals that she is not a monster but I to me the owl seems stubborn and I don’t think she’ll change her mind.

What has been your favourite part?
