Coding in 4T

This term we were lucky to have the knowledgable Melinda come and work with us once a week to grow our knowledge of computational thinking and coding.

We learnt that whenever you are wanting to program a device you need to have a clear event that starts what will happen, precise and efficient algorithms and a courageous and persistent mindset!

4T were able to transfer their knowledge from Scratch Jr to a new app called Hopscotch where they explored the functions of the blocks and variables to create various games.

4T are now putting their knowledge to the test and designing and creating their own maths games to assist in practising a concept already learnt this year.

Some game learning intentions include:

  • To practise times tables facts

  • To convert fractions to decimals

  • To find equivalent fractions

Have you ever created a game? What was its learning intention and aim?

    Hi 4T,

What an exciting term you’ve had! The coding sounds like it was a lot of fun. I’ve tried for ages to learn Hopscotch, but I find it very challenging, so I have a Year 5 student who is going to tutor me in Hopscotch next term. I’m excited to learn more about it.

The Year 1s are learning about fractions next term and I am trying to think of games we could make on Scratch Junior. Maybe I can pop up and have a look at your games?

    Enjoy the holidays!

    Miss Davidson.

      Hi Miss Davidson

We have had so much fun doing hopscotch. I would love if you came up to look at our games. Do you like coding?

      Bye for now

      Dear Miss Davidson,
I love hopscotch. It is probably my favourite coding app because it is quite easy to learn and when you get the hang of it you can make some really cool games.

I hope you can learn how to use hopscotch because then you can come into our classroom to explore hopscotch with us.

Our class is working on a hopscotch game. It is a maths games and you have to try to get the answer right. We can customize what the game looks like and even if you are super good at it you can make a score out of how many questions you got correct.

I hope you enjoy your three week holiday!

      From Edward

      Hi Miss Davidson,
I think it would be great if you came up to our classroom. I think we might be able to teach you. After all we could teach the preps scratch jr.
I made a game with the learning intention of practicing converting fractions to decimals.

Where are you going on your holiday?

    Hi Miss Davidson,

Thanks so much for commenting on our blog!
Yes we have had a great term!
Some ideas could just be number facts up to ten or maybe counting backwards.
I hope all this helped, and you can pop down any time you want!

    Sienna.

    Hi Miss Davidson ,
Thank you so much for leaving a comment about our hopscotch.
We had a very fun term learning about coding.
A game you could do with the year ones could be number facts.
You can pop in any time you like and have a go at our games.
    Mia
