Material Matters!

Did you know that most materials we use can be organised into 6 main categories?

Well, as 4T found out on Thursday at the Hands On Science Incursion – they can! There are 2 main groups and 3 sub categories:

NATURAL MATERIALS
– Animals
– Plants
– Rocks and Minerals

PROCESSED MATERIALS
Originating from:
– Animals
– Plants
– Rocks and Minerals

Along with the guidance of workshop leaders Liz and Janelle, 4T participated in a range of experiments where they tested various materials to see which was greatest at insulating heat, the strongest, absorbent and most flammable!
Here is a quick snapshot of the measuring, hypothesising, testing and recording from the day:

Hello 4T Learners, It was wonderful being in your classroom last week seeing you working so diligently on your experiment results write-ups. I was amazed at your ability to create such impressive reflections on your iPads and the depth of understanding you have gained about your experiments. I particularly enjoyed finding out more about the strength of different shopping bags and how mobile phone covers only partly protect a phone when it is dropped. Looking forward to seeing you at meet the scientist afternoon today. Mr Ingles

    Hi Mr Ingles,
Thanks for commenting on our class blog.

We have been working hard on our experiments and it all payed off at meet the Scientist. I personnally really enjoyed that afternoon and I certainly did learn a new thing from that day, which was if you leave a paper boat in any liquid for too long it sinks!

Did you learn something? If so, what did you learn.
    See you later,
    Kara.
